Grant Haugen

Background:
Grant Haugen has been teaching in the Law Enforcement Department at Alexandria Technical & Community College since March 1980. He currently retired as the Division Chair and Coordinator for the Law Enforcement program July 28, 2006. He still teaches use-of-force classes for the Law Enforcement Program and the summer Law Enforcement Skills Training.
Occupational Background:
Grant is a 1969-70 Viet Nam veteran from the USMC (Sergeant). Personal attainments from the USMC were the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V" and Navy Achievement Medal with Combat "V".
After his military tour he attended and graduated from the Law Enforcement program at the Alexandria Technical Institute in Alexandria, MN. He started his law enforcement career in the Stevens County Sheriff's Department where he was a Deputy Sheriff and in 1974 elected as the Stevens County Sheriff. He remained as the Stevens County Sheriff until March of 1980, when he accepted a position at the Alexandria Technical & Community College as an instructor in the Law Enforcement Department. Besides coordinating and teaching in the law enforcement program, he also works part-time as a Deputy Sheriff for the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.
Education:
Grant completed his BA Degree in Management, Criminal Justice, from Metropolitan State University and finished his Masters in Education from Saint Mary's University in 1996.
He is a graduate of the National Sheriffs' Institute, University Southern California along with a multitude of other criminal justice seminars for law enforcement.

Background:
Deborah Martin joined the staff at Alexandria Technical & Community College in 1987. Prior to coming to ATCC she was employed by the Fargo, ND Police Department from 1977 - 1987. Deborah was the second female officer to be hired for patrol duty in the department's history and the first full-time female instructor in the ATCC Law Enforcement Program. She currently teaches both on-campus and online courses. She has been a member of the Alexandria, MN Police Citizen Advisory Committee since its inception.

Charles Olson joined the staff of Alexandria Technical & Community College in August 2000. Prior to joining the staff, he was a deputy sheriff with the Stearns County Sheriff's Department for 21+ years, retiring with a rank of lieutenant.
