Computer Programming

Computer Programming

Computer programming is nothing more than describing a task to a computer, so it can perform the task repetitively. Programmers use a series of special words written in a computer language to write computer programs. While there are many different computer languages, all of them have things in common. Once you learn a computer language, you can usually learn the others fairly quickly. Alexandria Technical College teaches several different languages; each language has characteristics to solve specific types of business problems.

Choosing Computer Programming as a Career

To answer this question, it is best to examine what you like to do in your spare time, what hobbies you enjoy, and what high school or college classes you have done well in. Computer programmers must have good communication and problem solving skills and the ability to work well with others. Computer programmers rarely travel and are indoors most of the day. Typically, programmers are people who enjoy gaming and instant messaging significantly. If you possess these traits and find these work conditions appealing, then a career in Computer Programming may be a good option for you.

The Difference between ATC and All the Rest

You may have noticed ATC’s Computer Programming degree has 72 credits and other colleges may have fewer. The difference is we teach three programming languages. Each of the languages is taught for a full year (8 credits); five days a week. Other campuses may only provide a one-semester class or may not meet as often. As a result, their degree plan has fewer credits.

Because we go deeper into the language, our students have a better understanding of each language and retain what they’ve learned. As a result, they have a competitive edge when they enter the workforce. Employers judge computers programmers on both the depth and breadth of their knowledge. ATC's Computer Programming degree prepares you for both!
